About

portrait

"Free dance is not so much a feast for eye and ear as a nourishment for brain and soul. It does not seek to amuse you, but to move you, to take you out of yourself and the tired world you live in"- Dance as Aan Art Form by La Meri (1938)

Hageman’s passion for dance started at an early age. In high school, Hageman performed for various companies around the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. Hageman attended The St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Arts; there, he studied a broad range of techniques like Ballet, Modern, Jazz and African. At age 18, Hageman auditioned for the Alvin Ailey School of Dance, in New York City. He was accepted, and is currently in his 3rd year pursuing a Certificate in Dance.

For the 30th Bates Dance Festival in Maine, Hageman was invited with full funding to attend. He studied contact improvisation with Chris Akien, and choreography with Alison Chase - the founder of Pilobolus Dance Theater. Over the past three years, Hageman has collaborated on film project with fellow Minnesotan and NYU Film student, Sam Ekren. He also preforms regularly in Lower East Side cabarets. Currently, Hageman is collaborating with ten other artists on a multimedia dance project.
